Sweden’s Defense Ministry announced the testing of new drone “swarming” technology

The Swedish Ministry of Defense has announced trials of a new “swarm” drone technology developed by the Swedish defense equipment company Saab in collaboration with the country’s armed forces.

This was reported by Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonson during a press conference, as reported by Reuters. The minister clarified that the Swedish army will test the new technology as part of the upcoming “Arctic Strike” exercises, adding that its development has been ongoing for the past year.

According to him, the new technology allows the creation of drone “swarms” of various sizes that operate autonomously. These drones will be able to perform tasks such as reconnaissance, positioning, and identification. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson noted that the country is currently in a state “between war and peace.”

On January 12, it was also reported that Sweden will send three ships on a NATO patrol mission in the Baltic Sea to protect underwater infrastructure. This will be the country’s first participation in such a mission with the North Atlantic Alliance.
