A ski lift accident at the Astún resort in Spain has left at least 30 people with serious injuries, according to authorities in Aragón.
The incident occurred when a chairlift fell from a height of 15 meters, as confirmed by the Civil Guard. While there are no reported fatalities at this time, rescue operations are ongoing. The cause of the accident remains unknown.
Emergency response teams, including 24 ambulances and helicopters, have been deployed to assist and transport the injured. Hospitals in the region have brought in additional staff to treat those affected.
The accident took place at Astún, a winter sports area in the Pyrenees near the French border.
“I am shocked by the news of the accident at the Astún ski resort. I have spoken with the president of Aragón to offer the full support of the government. All our love to the victims and their families,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
