Germany is preparing for the second deportation of convicted migrants of Afghan origin to Afghanistan since the Taliban took power.
The newspaper quoted a statement from the Ministry of the Interior, which said that the deportation would be carried out with the support of a regional partner and is planned shortly before the elections in Germany, on February 23.
A representative of the ministry confirmed that deportations are continuing, but emphasized that they are not related to the elections, and flights will be carried out as soon as all necessary conditions are met.
After the Taliban took power in 2021, Berlin suspended sending people to Afghanistan due to human rights violations. However, through the mediation of Qatar, one deportation flight was carried out in August of last year.
Debates over illegal migration have intensified in Germany after a knife attack in Aschaffenburg, which resulted in two deaths, including a young child. The attacker was a 28-year-old Afghan who lived in a refugee shelter and had mental health issues.
