Serbian PM Miloš Vučević resigns amid nationwide protests

Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević has officially announced his resignation, citing the widespread protests that have rocked the country in recent weeks. In his statement, Vučević urged for calm and called for a return to dialogue to address the tensions.

Along with Vučević, the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, has also stepped down. Vučević shared that he had a lengthy and significant conversation with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić earlier in the day, during which Vučić accepted his decision and the reasoning behind it.

Vučević stressed the importance of politicians taking responsibility for the nation’s unrest, stating that they must show a willingness to reduce societal tension. He also claimed that the deep divisions within Serbian society were “cunningly planned from abroad,” citing a series of misunderstandings, disputes, and conflicts across the country.

He remarked, “No matter how much we call for calm, some evil always follows,” adding that recent events seemed orchestrated, as if by an “invisible hand,” to intensify the tensions.
