Google has removed from its set of principles the provision that prohibited the use of artificial intelligence for creating weapons and other dangerous purposes. This was reported by Bloomberg.
Earlier, the head of the ethical AI team at the company claimed that this change might indicate Google’s intention to work on technologies that could be used to create weapons. He expressed concern that Google might now actively develop technologies that could harm people.
In response to a request for comment on the changes, the company referred journalists to a statement from Google’s vice president. He emphasized that the company supports the development of AI with democratic values in mind, such as freedom, equality, and respect for human rights. He also noted that collaboration between governments, companies, and organizations that share these principles is important to create AI that contributes to national security and global growth.
It is worth noting that a similar decision was made at the beginning of the Trump administration when restrictions for AI developers were lifted, which were expected to be introduced under Biden to reduce the risks associated with neural networks.
