Google has decided to abandon its focus on diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) in the hiring process. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The company will no longer actively seek to hire “members of minority groups.” Google also stated that they are reviewing executive orders from former U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at limiting DEI policies among government agencies and contractors.
After taking office on January 20, Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders, including the cancellation of diversity and inclusion programs in federal agencies, as well as recognizing only two genders — male and female.
As reported by NBC, federal employees were instructed to report colleagues holding positions related to DEI policies if their work had gone unnoticed by the new administration, under threat of disciplinary action. Several companies, including Amazon, Meta, McDonald’s, Ford, and Walmart, have already abandoned their diversity and inclusion departments.
