Right-wing political forces in Romania organized a large rally in central Bucharest, attended by figures such as Călin Georgescu. The demonstration saw episodes of clashes with police.
On Saturday, March 1, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), supporters of right-wing politician Călin Georgescu, and the Youth Party staged an anti-government protest in central Bucharest. Georgescu attended the rally with his wife, along with AUR leader George Simion.
AUR supporters—joined by ideological allies from several European countries—first gathered at University Square before marching to Victory Square, where they joined other demonstrators.
Clashes broke out between protesters and police when some attempted to break through security barriers. Reports also indicate that a Polish citizen was denied entry to the rally after authorities found a short-bladed knife on his belt. He was taken into custody.
