On March 10, a major outage occurred on the X social network, which, according to its owner Elon Musk, was the result of a “massive cyberattack.”
We are attacked every day, but this attack was carried out using a large amount of resources. Either a large, coordinated group or a nation is involved. We are tracking it… Musk wrote on X.
The first access issues were recorded at around 10:30 AM European time. According to Downdetector, more than 21,000 users from the U.S. and about 11,000 from the U.K. reported outages. Complaints continued throughout the day, with the highest number—over 40,000—recorded around 3:00 PM.
Some users encountered error messages from Cloudflare—a company specializing in content delivery and cybersecurity—when trying to access the service.
According to Downdetector statistics, most users (58%) experienced issues with the X mobile app, 31% with the desktop version, and 11% reported server connection problems. At this time, the causes of the attack and its potential perpetrators remain unknown.
