Switzerland is closely monitoring the consequences of the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump and continues its dialogue with the American administration to protect its economic interests.
As reported by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) on Wednesday, March 12, the country aims to maintain the broadest possible access to the U.S. market, as the United States is a key trading partner.
The agency also stated that it is carefully analyzing the impact of the new tariffs, which took effect on March 12, and their potential consequences for the national economy. The issue of joining the countermeasures introduced by the European Union remains under discussion.
According to Reuters, in 2024, the U.S. became Switzerland’s largest export market, accounting for approximately 19% of the country’s total goods exports.
