Trump announces imminent US-Russia talks on Ukraine ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that American and Russian officials are set to meet “today or tomorrow” (March 11-12) to discuss the Ukraine conflict, according to Reuters. The announcement comes after negotiations in Saudi Arabia, where Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire and Washington pledged to resume intelligence-sharing with Kiev.

“That’s a total ceasefire,” Trump declared outside the White House. “Ukraine’s on board. Now we just need Russia to agree.”

Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy, is reportedly heading to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, neither U.S. nor Russian authorities have confirmed the trip or its exact timeline.

“We’ll sit down with them later today or tomorrow, and hopefully, we’ll strike a deal,” Trump continued. “This ceasefire is critical. If Russia agrees, fantastic. If not, well, the war drags on, and more lives are lost.”

Moscow has yet to respond to the U.S.-Ukraine discussions in Jeddah. Russia has previously dismissed temporary ceasefires, insisting they merely give Kiev time to regroup and rearm. Putin, in January, emphasized that any lasting peace must respect the rights and interests of all people in the region.
