Canada’s new Prime Minister will officially take office on Friday

Mark Carney, the successor to Justin Trudeau as Canada’s Prime Minister, will officially take the oath of office on Friday, March 14.

This information was confirmed by the office of Canada’s Governor General, Mary Simon. Carney, along with his new government, will take the oath at Rideau Hall.

As per the established procedure, on Friday, Trudeau will visit the Governor General to submit his resignation, after which Carney will take the necessary oaths. The new prime minister will also introduce the members of his government.

On Monday, Carney met with Trudeau to discuss the duration of the transition period. He noted that the process would be “smooth” and “swift.” In recent days, Carney has held meetings with key officials both within Ottawa and beyond. Work on the transition of power has been carried out from both a bureaucratic and a security perspective.

Mark Carney will assume the position of prime minister amid a trade war with the United States. He has previously stated that Canada will never become part of the U.S. and promised to maintain tariffs on American goods until the U.S. demonstrates respect.
