EU prepares emergency measures to mitigate impact of US tariffs

The European Union is developing a package of urgent measures to support industries that are expected to be most affected by the new U.S. tariffs.

According to Bloomberg, the European Commission is already working on short-term initiatives to provide economic support to impacted sectors. These measures will be accompanied by reforms aimed at increasing the competitiveness of key industries and improving the functioning of the EU single market.

At the same time, Brussels is shaping its negotiation strategy for discussions with Washington. The EU intends to consider possible compromises, including regulatory relaxations and investment cooperation.

However, the European Union does not plan to introduce immediate retaliatory measures against the U.S., as time will be needed to assess the full impact of the new tariffs. Nevertheless, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has previously stated that the EU has a broad range of countermeasures at its disposal, including reciprocal tariffs and restrictions on U.S. companies operating in the services and IT sectors.
