Restoration work on the EstLink 2 undersea power cable, which connects Finland and Estonia, is set to begin in May.
According to the Finnish electricity transmission operator Fingrid, the line is expected to return to commercial use by July 15, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
The cable was damaged in October. As a result, not only the power line but also four internet connections were affected. Fingrid noted that a new one-kilometer section of cable is currently being laid on the seabed to replace the damaged segment. The repair work is being carried out by the French company Nexans.
Earlier, in March, a Finnish court lifted the arrest of the tanker Eagle S, which had been detained on suspicion of damaging underwater infrastructure. The vessel subsequently left Finnish territorial waters.
The incident prompted NATO to launch a new operation called “Baltic Watch,” with Allied naval forces patrolling the Baltic Sea to safeguard critical underwater infrastructure.
