Polish President Andrzej Duda has ordered a national day of mourning to be held on the day of Pope Francis’ funeral.
This was announced by Wojciech Kolarski, head of the President’s International Policy Bureau.
The official stated that, by the president’s decision, a national mourning will be declared in Poland on the day of Pope Francis’ funeral — Saturday, April 26. According to him, the relevant presidential decree will soon be forwarded to the Prime Minister for signing, as required by procedure.
Kolarski also confirmed that President Andrzej Duda and the First Lady will attend the Pope’s funeral.
As a reminder, 88-year-old Pope Francis passed away on April 21 at 7:35 a.m. in his residence in the Vatican. According to official reports, the cause of death was a stroke.
