Heavy rainstorms have hit the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, causing landslides, flooding of roads, and basements, particularly in the Harz and Altmark regions.
According to Tagesschau, the bad weather struck the area on the evening of April 23. The downpour, accompanied by thunderstorms, caused a sudden rise in water levels, flooding streets and basement areas. The fire and rescue service in the Harz region recorded more than 450 calls for help from residents affected by the severe weather.
Three regional roads were closed due to flooding and mudslides. In some areas, the water level reached up to one meter. Authorities have reported that cleanup operations will continue throughout the day, with full recovery expected to take until the weekend.
Although no official flood warnings were issued, water levels in the Bode River and its tributaries are expected to rise.
