26 arrested in France over attacks on prisons and staff property

French authorities have detained 26 individuals in an ongoing investigation into a series of attacks targeting prisons and the personal property of correctional staff.

The most recent arrest took place on the morning of April 29 in the Essonne department, south of Paris. It was part of a coordinated national police operation that began on Monday, which had already led to the detention of 25 suspects. Officials say more arrests are expected in the coming hours.

All individuals apprehended on Monday have been ordered to remain in custody as investigations continue.

The arrests follow a wave of coordinated acts of vandalism that began on April 15, when multiple French prisons and vehicles belonging to prison staff were targeted across several cities. Authorities say similar incidents have continued in the weeks since, prompting heightened security and an intensified response from law enforcement.
