Paris police prepare for possible Labor Day riots

On May 1st, security measures have been heightened in Paris as authorities anticipate possible incidents during mass events marking Labor Day.

According to BFMTV, Paris Police Prefect Laurent Nuñez announced that approximately 2,000 law enforcement officers will be deployed across the city, with a focus on areas where protests and gatherings are expected.

Police estimate that several hundred radical elements may take to the streets, potentially joined by others, forming a crowd of up to 1,000 to 1,500 people.

Across France, around 250 demonstrations are planned for the day, with an expected turnout of up to 150,000 participants. Some of these events will include political figures: in Paris, far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon is set to join the demonstrators, while Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella, leaders of the right-wing National Rally, will attend a rally in the southern city of Narbonne.

Additionally, 26 individuals have been arrested across France over the past week on suspicion of involvement in acts of vandalism targeting prisons and property belonging to corrections staff.
