French railway employees have planned a major strike for next week, which could disrupt the travel plans of hundreds of thousands of passengers.
As millions of French citizens prepare to take advantage of the extended May holiday starting May 8 for leisure trips, numerous railway unions have announced a strike from May 5 to May 11.
The strike was initially announced by train dispatchers, and two additional unions have since joined the action. Rail operator SNCF has already stated that final schedules will be released only 24 hours before departure.
Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot has called on the unions and the railway company to “provide clarity” for travelers so they can plan in advance.
