French police have taken 19 suspects into custody in connection with a series of attacks on prisons and correctional staff. The arrests were announced on Saturday by Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau, according to Le Figaro.
On May 2, a total of 21 individuals aged between 15 and 37 appeared in court. Two minors were placed in juvenile detention, while the remaining suspects were remanded in custody.
Among those arrested is the alleged creator of a Telegram channel named DDPF (“Defense of French Prisoners”), which had previously published posts criticizing prison conditions. According to investigators, this channel is believed to have played a central role in coordinating the attacks. Its administrator is also facing separate charges related to drug trafficking in Marseille.
During large-scale police raids earlier in the week, 30 individuals were detained, including four minors. Seven of them were later released without charges.
The wave of attacks began in mid-April, with prisons and vehicles belonging to correctional officers being targeted in several French cities. Authorities believe that organized drug networks are likely behind at least 15 such incidents.
