A U.S. federal appeals court has overturned a lower court ruling that had ordered the resumption of operations at the international media outlet Voice of America. The news was reported by Reuters.
On April 22, a district court had issued a decision requiring that Voice of America employees be reinstated, broadcasting resume, and grant funding for the outlet be restored. However, the appeals court nullified that ruling on Saturday.
Earlier, in March, President Donald Trump ordered a halt to funding for Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, accusing both media organizations of spreading “radical propaganda” and raising concerns about their editorial policies.
Additionally, following the launch of an audit of USAID by the Trump administration, all agency programs were temporarily suspended. The total funding affected amounted to approximately $7 billion. In early March 2025, the administration announced the permanent shutdown of 83% of USAID programs.
