A group of migrants clashed with Lithuanian border guards after being denied entry from Belarusian territory, throwing stones and sticks at the officials.
The incident occurred on the night of May 3, between Friday and Saturday, in the Lazdijai district, according to the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania (VSAT).
Border guards reported that the group had brought a ladder in an attempt to scale the border fence. When the guards arrived at the scene, the migrants began throwing stones and sticks at them.
“Shortly after this, the migrants returned to Belarusian territory. No Lithuanian border guards were injured,” the border service stated.
So far this year, Lithuania has prevented 628 illegal migrant entries. Last year, more than a thousand attempts to cross the border from Belarus at unauthorized points were recorded.
