Ex-NFL player in U.S. sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing a girl

Former National Football League player Kevin Ware has confessed to killing his 29-year-old girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski, who went missing in the spring of 2021. A court in Texas sentenced him to 30 years in prison. It is also known that this sentence will run concurrently with another for drug and weapon charges.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the prosecution offered Ware a deal: a guilty plea in exchange for a reduced sentence. Judge Brian Warren noted that if the trial had continued, the former athlete could have faced life in prison. After 20 minutes of discussions with his attorneys, Ware agreed to confess.

Taylor Pomaski was last seen on April 25, 2021, at a party at her home in Spring, Texas. Several months later, her remains were found in a ditch near her house. Court documents state that Ware “cut her with a knife, beat her with a blunt object, strangled her, and then attempted to burn her body.”

At the time of Taylor’s disappearance, Ware was already under investigation. Just days before she went missing, he had been released on bail of $23,000, and during a search, cocaine, methamphetamine, and weapons, including an AK-47, were found. In his NFL career, Ware played 16 games for the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers.
