Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he was proud of the country’s anti-fascist heritage

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Friday emphasized the importance of anti-fascist tradition as one of the foundations of modern Slovak statehood.

A strong anti-fascist tradition is one of the pillars of our modern statehood, and we are rightfully proud of it, Fico wrote on his Facebook page.

His statement came during a visit to Moscow, where he took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to mark Victory Day.

I consider it my duty to express our gratitude to the Liberators in this way. It is a response to those who seek to rewrite history for current geopolitical aims, he added.

Fico confirmed that he was in Moscow on Friday specifically for the Victory Day commemorations and had participated in the memorial ceremony.
