A violent disturbance erupted this morning at a secure psychiatric clinic for criminal offenders in Bedburg-Hau, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
According to BILD, the incident began when a 27-year-old male patient, known for his violent tendencies, caused significant damage inside the facility and barricaded himself in his room. Reports indicate that he was heavily intoxicated and extremely aggressive, though the method of acquiring alcohol in the high-security facility remains unclear.
As the chaos escalated, several other patients joined in, setting fire to furniture and building barricades. A fire broke out, prompting swift evacuation efforts. Some staff members were able to escape, while others are still being evacuated. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of staff being taken hostage during the ordeal.
Specialized police units from across the region, including hostage rescue teams, were swiftly deployed to the scene. Armored vehicles and helicopters have been dispatched for additional support.
A specialized truck with a mobile ramp designed to provide rooftop access has also arrived, preparing for a potential raid on the building.
