On Saturday, May 10, thousands gathered in Warsaw to protest against the migration policies of Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government.
As reported by AFP, demonstrators waved Polish flags and shouted “No migration,” along with the name of Karol Nawrocki, the national-conservative “Law and Justice” (PiS) party’s presidential candidate.
The first round of Poland’s presidential elections is scheduled for Sunday, May 18. Karol Nawrocki, head of the Institute of National Remembrance, is one of the leading candidates, supported by PiS and incumbent President Andrzej Duda. His main competitor, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, is backed by the center-right “Civic Platform” party, led by Prime Minister Tusk. However, analysts predict that neither candidate will secure a victory in the first round.
Meanwhile, on May 6, Poland’s Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawlikowski, accused Russia of interfering in the upcoming elections. He alleged that Russia was spreading disinformation and launching hybrid attacks on Poland’s critical infrastructure to disrupt the country’s operations.
