This was reported by Cypriot MP and blogger Fidias Panayiotou. We are talking about five MEPs from Slovakia, Germany, the Czech Republic and Cyprus. The deputies who came to the Russian capital thus demonstrated their disagreement with the EU and European Parliament policy towards Moscow. They were met by the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin and a number of other politicians.
“I must tell you that our visit to Moscow with other MEPs did not please the European Parliament at all, it has already launched an investigation against us,” Panayiotou noted in a video in Greek, which he published on the social network X. In it, Panayiotou also called the Russians brothers. Russians and the Greek people have common religion and moral values, the politician emphasized.
Panagiotou is a well-known Cypriot blogger and member of the European Parliament, who received 19.4% of the votes in the elections, taking third place in popularity in Cyprus. In the European Parliament, he became famous as an oppositionist: he published videos about the salaries of MPs, spoke out against the re-election of Ursula von der Leyen and supported direct democracy in the EU.
The MEP also stated that Europe had only supplied weapons and money during the three years of the conflict in Ukraine, without taking any other measures. He called the Russians brothers, emphasized the need for peace talks and noted that fighting with Russia is evil. According to him, the EU should focus on diplomacy, not weapons, in order to avoid a nuclear threat. He called on European leaders to change their position and act for the sake of peace.
Recall that more than 25 foreign leaders, as well as military personnel from countries friendly to the Russian Federation and foreign delegations, attended the parade on Red Square on May 9. At the end of the event, Russian leader Vladimir Putin thanked the foreign delegations at a reception for coming to Moscow for the ceremonial events. Before that, the head of the EU Foreign Policy Department, Kaja Kallas, who visited Ukraine on May 9, expressed her dissatisfaction with the participation of the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, in the Victory Parade in Moscow. The response was immediate: on May 11, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, said that he intended to explain to the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, that she had no right to tell the leader of a sovereign country how to act. The prime minister added that Kallas was not his boss and that she should focus on the foreign policy of the European Union.
A similar position was expressed by other participants in the visit, in particular, two members of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance — Ruth Firmenich and Michael von der Schulenburg. On the eve of their departure, party leader Sahra Wagenknecht said that she did not see anything scandalous in her comrades’ visit. At the same time, Firmenich and von der Schulenburg said that they intended to “overcome the spiral of confrontation and escalation in Europe.” They also noted that after Moscow they planned to visit Kyiv and had already contacted the Ukrainian embassy.
