During U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Doha, the United States and Qatar signed a series of bilateral cooperation agreements. The signing ceremony was attended by Trump and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The two sides agreed to expand defense cooperation and signed a major contract for the purchase of 160 Boeing aircraft for the Qatari national carrier, Qatar Airways. The total value of the deal is estimated at $200 billion. According to Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, as cited by Trump, this represents the largest aircraft order in the company’s history.
Details of the agreement, including the specific aircraft models, delivery schedules, and contractual terms, have not yet been disclosed. Reuters notes that based on the last published prices for Boeing models such as the 777X, the actual value of the deal could amount to around $70 billion, considering potential bulk order discounts.
Trump’s visit to Qatar followed a major stop in Saudi Arabia as part of his Middle East tour. A day earlier, on May 13, in Riyadh, a record-setting package of agreements and investment commitments worth over $600 billion was signed, marking the largest economic deal in U.S.-Saudi relations.
Key components of those agreements included:
A $20 billion investment by DataVolt in U.S. digital and energy infrastructure,
A $14.2 billion contract for GE Vernova to supply gas turbines to Saudi Arabia,
A $4.8 billion order for Boeing 737-8 aircraft by Saudi airline AviLease,
A $5.8 billion healthcare project to build a high-tech medical solutions plant in Michigan,
A $142 billion military cooperation agreement covering arms deliveries, air and missile defense systems, security upgrades, and training for Saudi military and technical personnel.
