Clashes at pro-Palestinian protest in Berlin lead to multiple arrests

Approximately 1,100 people gathered for a pro-Palestinian rally in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district on Nakba Day, commemorating the 1948 establishment of Israel, which Palestinians refer to as the “catastrophe.”

Some participants expressed opposition to Israel and the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Police spokesperson Florian Nath reported “significant violence” against officers, including one who was trampled and required hospitalization. Protesters allegedly threw bottles and stones during the unrest.

Ten people, including law enforcement personnel, sustained injuries, and at least 50 individuals were detained.

Authorities are investigating serious bodily harm, disturbance of peace, and resisting police charges. After the violence escalated, police dispersed the crowd.

Mayor Kai Wegner stated, “An attack on a Berlin police officer during the demonstration in Kreuzberg is nothing short of a cowardly and brutal act of violence. Anyone who attacks the police is attacking our constitutional state—and therefore all of us.”
