Swedish authorities have concluded that there is no evidence suggesting the gunman behind February’s mass shooting in Örebro was driven by racist or extremist views.
The announcement came on Friday, May 16, as investigators shared findings on Rickard Andersson, the 35-year-old former student who opened fire at Campus Risbergska, an adult education center in Örebro, killing ten people before taking his own life.
Police described Andersson as a socially isolated individual who legally possessed four rifles.
“The motive we see was his desire to end his life,” said Police Chief Henrik Dahlström, noting that Andersson likely targeted the school because of his past connection to it.
The shooting, which occurred on February 5, remains the deadliest school-related attack in Swedish history, resulting in 11 deaths—including the perpetrator—and multiple injuries.
