Greece sued over Adidas drone show near the Acropolis

Greece’s Ministry of Culture has initiated legal action following a drone show near the Acropolis in Athens, reportedly organized by the Adidas brand. The ministry accuses the organizers of violating laws protecting cultural heritage sites.

According to Reuters, during the show, drones formed the Adidas logo and the outline of a sneaker against the backdrop of one of the world’s most iconic historical monuments.

Culture Minister Lina Mendoni stated that the event was conducted without the ministry’s approval and breached regulations concerning the commercial use of cultural landmarks.

Adidas, in turn, claims it complied with all legal requirements and had obtained the necessary permissions. In an official statement, the company emphasized that the Acropolis was not used for advertising or other commercial purposes.

The Greek Ministry of Culture has also launched an internal investigation to verify whether the drone flights were authorized in accordance with the legal procedures for operations near protected historical sites.
