On Sunday, May 18, nearly 40% of flights were canceled at Paris Orly Airport — the second busiest in France — due to a technical failure in the air traffic control system, Le Figaro reports.
France’s Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC) stated that air traffic restrictions were imposed in response to the malfunction, resulting in a significant reduction in flight operations. Airlines were advised to cut their schedules at Orly by 40% for the remainder of the day.
DGAC emphasized that efforts are underway to restore normal operations at the airport as quickly as possible. It remains unclear whether the disruption will affect flights on Monday.
Paris Orly is the second busiest airport in France by passenger volume, having served over 33 million travelers in 2024.
