Finnish airline Finnair unexpectedly canceled more than one hundred flights scheduled for Monday, May 19, due to a trade union strike, according to broadcaster Yle.
The airline stated that the cancellations affected flights to and from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The disruptions were caused by interruptions in standard airport procedures resulting from strike-related actions by employees.
Passengers whose flights remain on schedule are advised to check in online in advance and arrive at the airport well ahead of departure. The aviation workers’ union is considering a full-scale strike to increase pressure on employers during negotiations over a collective labor agreement for employees in the air passenger transport sector.
Earlier, in April, Finnair announced plans to cancel 230 summer flights due to resource shortages.
