German police are searching for a man suspected of carrying out a knife attack in the city of Bielefeld, which left at least five people injured, according to the dpa news agency.
According to law enforcement, the incident occurred at night near a local bar. The alleged attacker, believed to be around 35 years old, began randomly assaulting patrons before fleeing the scene. Four of the victims sustained serious injuries, with one reported to be in critical condition.
Witnesses said the victims — men aged between 22 and 27 — were possibly affiliated with the local football fan community. They reportedly attempted to fight back before the assailant escaped. Preliminary information suggests the suspect may have suffered a facial injury during the altercation.
At the scene, police recovered several knives and a bag believed to belong to the attacker. The bag contained identification documents and a bottle with an unknown liquid that smelled like gasoline.
