Trzaskowski and Nawrocki advance to the second round of Poland’s presidential election

With 99% of the votes counted in Poland’s presidential election, Rafal Trzaskowski of the ruling Civic Coalition and Karol Nawrocki of the main opposition party Law and Justice (PiS) are set to face off in the second round, according to data from the Polish electoral commission.

Preliminary results show Trzaskowski leading with 31.1% of the vote, followed by Nawrocki with 29.7%. Sławomir Mentzen, the candidate from the Confederation party, came in third with 14.8%.

The second round of the election is scheduled for June 1. The final results of the first round are expected to be published by the electoral commission later on Monday.

The remaining candidates received the following shares of the vote: Grzegorz Braun (Confederation of the Polish Crown) — 6.3%, Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia — 4.9%, Adrian Zandberg (Together movement) — 4.8%, and Magdalena Biejat (The Left) — 4.2%.
