Polish Minister of the Interior Tomasz Siemoniak has announced that the construction of an electronic barrier along the Poland-Belarus border in the Lublin Voivodeship will be completed by July 20, according to the PAP news agency.
Siemoniak made the statement during a ceremony in Lublin marking the 34th anniversary of the establishment of the Nadbużański Border Guard Unit (NOSG). He emphasized that border protection is a fundamental element of national independence and sovereignty, enshrined in the Polish Constitution and the Border Guard Act. The minister thanked border officers for their dedicated service, often carried out at great personal risk.
According to Siemoniak, 2.6 billion zlotys have already been spent on border infrastructure, including the reinforcement of the physical barrier. Construction of the electronic barrier along the Bug River is still underway.
The system will include approximately 1,800 camera masts, 4,500 day and night vision cameras, thermal imaging devices, and sensors capable of detecting movement and other physical indicators. Around 200 kilometers of power and data transmission cables will also be laid.
The monitoring center for the system will be located at NOSG headquarters in the city of Chełm. The barrier will be connected to seven local control stations and integrated with existing observation towers and the Border Guard’s ICT network.
The move to strengthen the border comes amid increasing migration pressure. In March 2025, the Polish government once again tightened border control measures with Belarus, including restrictions on applying for international protection.
