Switzerland and Italy will hold joint aviation exercises with the involvement of U.S. Air Forces in Europe aircraft from May 26 to June 13.
This information is published on the Swiss government’s website.
According to official information, the exercises will take place in Istrana, Italy. The purpose of these exercises is to improve cooperation between the parties.
The exercises in Italy will involve Swiss Air Force F/A-18 fighters, as well as Italian Air Force Eurofighter and F-35 aircraft. They will be joined by U.S. Air Force F-16s based in Europe. During the exercises, pilots will enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of cross-border air defense.
As noted in the statement, the Swiss Air Force cannot conduct full-scale training on its own territory in accordance with international standards. This is due in particular to limited and small training areas, restrictions on altitude and flight speeds, regulated flight times, limits on the number of takeoffs and landings at airfields, dense civilian air traffic over Switzerland, as well as high population density and the need to consider noise pollution levels.
