Vienna knife attack sparks manhunt, leaves one injured in broad daylight assault

A brutal knife attack in Vienna’s Favoriten district rattled residents on Monday afternoon, leaving one man wounded and prompting a swift police response. The assault took place shortly after noon near Keplerplatz, in an area already designated as a weapons ban zone due to rising violence.

Authorities said the victim suffered multiple slash wounds to his head and arm, reportedly delivered by an assailant who vanished before officers could arrive. Emergency services rushed to the scene and treated the injured man, while police launched an intensive manhunt in the surrounding neighborhood.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the attack.

This incident marks the latest in a string of violent episodes in the area. Just days earlier, another stabbing occurred in nearby Reumannplatz, fueling concerns over escalating crime in what’s meant to be a tightly controlled zone.

Police remain on the ground and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, locals are left shaken, wondering how yet another daylight attack could unfold in a supposedly secure part of the city.
