Trump: US will assess progress of Ukraine talks within two weeks, possible meeting with Putin and Zelensky

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington intends to evaluate the progress of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia over the next two weeks.

We’ll know everything within two weeks. Very soon, it will become clear whether they’re trying to deceive us. If that’s the case, we’ll respond differently. It’ll take about a week and a half to two weeks, Trump said during a briefing. He also noted that his advisor, Mr. Whitcoff, is actively involved and handling the negotiations “tough and effectively.

According to the American leader, both sides appear to have a desire to reach an agreement, but he emphasized that “nothing can be confirmed until a document is signed.” Trump expressed disappointment over recent developments, particularly the loss of lives during what he described as ongoing negotiations. “I’m very, very disappointed about what happened a couple of nights ago,” he added.

The president stressed that he is refraining from imposing new sanctions on Russia for now in order to “avoid jeopardizing a potential deal on Ukraine.”

Additionally, Trump said he is ready, if necessary, to hold a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Earlier, Trump’s special envoy Keith Kellogg mentioned the possibility of such a meeting. Meanwhile, Moscow stated that a Putin-Zelensky meeting is possible, but its likelihood depends on progress in agreeing to a memorandum that Russia has proposed for discussion on June 2.
