Orbán praises Babiš, hopes for his return, and commends Fico amid political struggles

At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest on Thursday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán warmly addressed Andrej Babiš, the current chairman of the ANO party and former (and potentially future) Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, who was seated in the front row.

Orbán highlighted their joint efforts against migration policies in Brussels during Babiš’s time leading the Czech government, stating, “Without Babiš, this wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you, and we are waiting for you to come back, Andrej.”

The Hungarian leader also spoke about the political challenges faced by attendees at the conference. He singled out Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, saying, “Robert Fico is the toughest among us. He has survived five attacks. An enraged liberal gang fired five bullets at him. And now he is here with us, fighting as if nothing happened. The world has never seen anything like this.” Orbán attributed the assassination attempt on Fico to his political opponents.

Reflecting on Donald Trump’s political comeback, Orbán called it “a civilizational turning point that restored hope to the world,” adding, “He brought us hope for a normal life in the world. This is historically the greatest comeback in the Western world.”

Orbán reiterated his criticism of Brussels’ migration policy: “Europeans do not feel safe in cities where 20 years ago they were at home. What is happening is not integration, but organized population replacement. Changes must happen; this cannot continue.”

He described Europe’s future as a choice between two paths — liberal and patriotic:

“The liberal plan considers traditional Christian Europe obsolete. For decades, they have been working to create a new identity instead of Christianity and the nation,” he claimed.

Regarding Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, Orbán accused Brussels of siding with the war: “The liberal plan will lead to a militant, centralized, and debt-ridden Europe, where there is no freedom but obedience.”

He outlined the patriots’ four-point plan: “First, we want peace and do not want a new eastern front, so we are against Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. Second, we stand for sovereignty — no common taxes, loans, or a centralized economy. We do not want our money to fund wars in third countries.”

“Third, we must protect our freedom, and fourth, we want to take Europe back from the migrants,” Orbán declared.

He emphasized that European policy will be shaped by which plan prevails and urged unity: “This battle must first be won by each of us at home, and then together in Brussels. When the decisive battle comes, we must be united. Let’s make Europe great again.”
