Former U.S. President Donald Trump has accused China of violating the mutual tariff reduction agreement, claiming that Beijing has “completely broken” the deal previously reached between the two countries. He made the statement on his social media platform, TRUTH Social.
According to Trump, the agreement was made at a time when, as he claims, China’s economy was on the brink of collapse due to U.S.-imposed tariffs.
China was in serious economic trouble. The tariffs I imposed effectively cut off their access to the largest market in the world — the United States, Trump wrote.
He asserted that these measures led to widespread factory closures and “civil unrest” in China, prompting an urgent deal with Beijing to prevent further destabilization.
That deal quickly stabilized the situation, China got back to work, and everyone was happy. But now, China has completely violated that agreement, Trump stated.
He added that this outcome is “what happens when you try to be the ‘nice guy,’” implying that too much goodwill was shown during negotiations with Beijing.
