Widespread unrest broke out in several French cities on Saturday night following Paris Saint-Germain’s historic victory in the UEFA Champions League final, Le Figaro reports.
PSG claimed their first-ever Champions League title after defeating Inter Milan in the final held in Munich. Although the match took place in Germany, around 48,000 fans gathered at PSG’s home stadium, the Parc des Princes in Paris, to watch the game on a giant screen.
By Sunday morning, at least 427 people had been arrested across France, mainly for acts of vandalism and participation in riots. On the Champs-Élysées, fans stormed a Foot Locker store; police responded with tear gas and detained around 30 individuals.
Reports of violence also came from other cities. In Grenoble, a car drove into a crowd of supporters, injuring four people. The driver later turned himself in and was taken into custody. In Nantes, fans began damaging a bus before being dispersed by police.
A tragic incident was also reported in the southwestern city of Dax, where a 17-year-old boy died from stab wounds, according to unconfirmed reports. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and the suspect is still at large.
