China accused the U.S. of violating trade agreements and threatened retaliatory measures

Beijing has issued a sharp statement accusing the United States of breaching previously concluded trade agreements and warning of possible countermeasures. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing a statement from China’s Ministry of Commerce.

The Chinese response came shortly after former U.S. President Donald Trump accused China of allegedly failing to comply with the terms of the trade deal signed in May. In reply, Beijing asserted that it was the United States that violated the agreement first by introducing new unilateral restrictions.

In its statement, China’s Ministry of Commerce condemned several recent U.S. actions, including:

a ban on the export of key American technologies to China;
stricter visa rules for Chinese students and researchers;
limitations on the supply of AI-related chips and high-tech manufacturing equipment.

Beijing called these measures a violation of the spirit of cooperation and warned that China reserves the right to take reciprocal actions.

The escalation of trade tensions triggered a sharp reaction in financial markets: Asian stock indexes fell, and futures on major U.S. indexes also moved into negative territory. Investors are increasingly concerned about the prospect of a renewed trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
