Elon Musk unveiled a new messenger, XChat, embedded in the X social network

American entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced the launch of a new messenger called XChat, integrated directly into his social media platform X. He made the announcement via a post on the platform itself.

According to Musk, XChat features an innovative encryption method, enables audio and video calls without the need for a phone number, and supports the sending of disappearing messages and files.

The messenger is reportedly built using the Rust programming language, which, according to Musk, allows for “Bitcoin-style encryption” and introduces a “completely new architecture” for the service. The launch of XChat likely caused a temporary disruption in X’s existing encrypted messages, presumably due to the transition to the new system.

Media outlets note that XChat may eventually replace the current DM (Direct Messages) feature on the platform, similar to how Facebook Messenger evolved into a standalone communication tool within the Meta ecosystem.

Earlier, Russian entrepreneur Pavel Durov announced that he had reached an agreement with Elon Musk to integrate the Grok artificial intelligence system into the Telegram messenger.
