Canada-U.S. trade deal nearing completion ahead of G7 summit

Canada and the United States appear to be nearing a comprehensive trade deal that could bring their ongoing trade conflict to a close, according to sources cited by CBC/Radio-Canada.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump are conducting behind-the-scenes negotiations to secure an agreement that would eliminate tariffs and normalize trade relations.

Sources familiar with the discussions say the two leaders have held several evening phone conversations and exchanged text messages following Carney’s recent visit to the White House.

There have been no official disclosures regarding the content of their discussions.

Insiders indicate that the central aim of the talks is to resolve the trade standoff. Both sides are reportedly hoping to finalize an agreement before the upcoming G7 summit.
