The Council of the European Union is expected to reach a political agreement on June 13 regarding the extension of temporary protection status for Ukrainian citizens until March 2027.
This is stated in the agenda announcement for the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting on June 13.
The EU Council will discuss the extension of temporary protection in the EU for Ukrainian citizens due to the war, aiming to reach a political agreement on this matter. A final decision is expected in the coming weeks.
In addition, the ministers will discuss options for transitioning from temporary protection status to another form of residency.
It is worth recalling that the European Commission recently shared that it is preparing to extend temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2027 and, at the same time, will provide member states with recommendations on further measures. These will include the possibility of obtaining a new status for those who are working or studying in the EU.
It should also be noted that the EU Council has already extended temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2026.
