A recent poll reveals that most Romanians are skeptical about a near end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Results from an INSCOP Research survey, released on Monday, indicate that over 62% of Romanian citizens do not think that the war will end soon, while nearly 32% believe otherwise. About 6% of those surveyed could not provide an answer.
The poll highlights greater optimism among younger Romanians and those living in small towns, whereas skepticism is more prevalent among older individuals and residents of Bucharest.
Regarding conditions for ending the conflict, 55.8% of respondents believe “for the war to end, Russia must withdraw its troops and return the occupied territories to Ukraine,” down from 64% in September 2023. On the other hand, 32.7% think “Ukraine should make certain concessions to Russia to end the war,” an increase from 24.1% in the previous poll. Nearly 12% of respondents were unable to answer this question.
The poll was conducted via telephone interviews between May 26 and May 30, 2025, involving 1,150 adult Romanian citizens. The maximum margin of error is ±2.9%.
