OpenAI, the company behind the widely known chatbot ChatGPT, has signed its first public contract with the U.S. Department of Defense, valued at $200 million, according to Reuters.
The agreement is part of a new initiative called OpenAI for Government, aimed at integrating artificial intelligence technologies into governmental operations. As part of the program, OpenAI will develop AI system prototypes designed to streamline the work of government institutions, reduce paperwork, and alleviate administrative burdens.
The contract with the Pentagon marks a significant step in the growing partnership between leading tech companies and U.S. government entities. Projects under the OpenAI for Government initiative are expected to accelerate the digital transformation of bureaucratic processes and improve the overall efficiency of federal agencies.
