Czech Republic investigates making ‘children to order’ through Ukrainian clinic

An investigation is underway in the Czech Republic regarding a Ukrainian clinic involved not only in surrogacy but also in what is described as “custom-made children.” The clinic allowed clients to choose specific traits for the child, such as skin color or recessive characteristics.

The case came to light following an incident in which a same-sex couple from Germany ordered surrogacy services from the clinic. The surrogate mother traveled to Prague, where she entered into a sham marriage with one of the men. She gave birth to the child in a hospital in Prague, received payment for her services (totaling 60,000 euros), and filed for divorce, leaving the baby with the man.

It is known that this is not an isolated case, and the clinic offered clients a range of surrogate mothers to ensure that the child would meet their specific desires. The services were popular among clients from across Europe, with the main process taking place in Prague.

In the Czech Republic, clinic employees will not face any legal consequences for their actions, as they exploited loopholes in local law. However, those involved in the business in Ukraine could face up to 15 years in prison.
