U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day suspension of reciprocal tariffs on imports from more than 75 countries. He made the announcement in a post on the social media platform Truth Social.
At the same time, Trump declared a sharp increase in tariffs on Chinese goods — up to 125 percent. He stated that this decision was driven by “Beijing’s disrespect for global markets.”
Earlier, on April 2, the U.S. leader introduced a system of mutual import tariffs. The base rate is set at 10 percent, but for each country, the tariff will be individually calculated — amounting to half the rate that country imposes on American goods.
Trump emphasized that these measures represent a declaration of the United States’ economic independence and will help allocate substantial funds toward reducing the national debt.
