Washington and Kyiv are close to signing an important agreement concerning Ukraine’s mineral resources and energy assets. According to the Financial Times, the agreement that both countries are working on could be signed as early as this week.
According to information provided by Ukrainian officials, the agreement will cover all of Ukraine’s mineral resources, including oil, gas, and rare earth metals. One of the key points is that the US and Ukraine have agreed that previously provided US financial assistance will not be included in the agreement as a debt obligation.
Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that the administration of US President Donald Trump had made a concession by excluding old financial obligations from the new agreement. This has become an important step for further cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.
